GAZ
If you’ve decided to strip your Mk1/Mk2 Golf bare and ramp up the power, then these new coilovers from GAZ might well be worth a look – they’ve been specifically designed for uprated/race-prepped cars The GAZ Gold kit consists of coilovers for both front and rear suspension. These are produced with a gas cell in the outer reservoir (this helps prevent cavitation), while the units themselves are filled with a multi-grade high viscosity index fluid to resist fade under extreme conditions. Ride height is adjustable through 60mm, plus dampers are bump and rebound adjustable by means of an easily accessible adjuster knob. Roller bearing mounts can also be specified All items are covered by a two-year warranty – find out more using the contact details below. WHO? GAZ Shocks
SPAX
SPAX is solid mid-budget brand that has been a favourite of VAG fans for years. Its kits are not only ideal replacements for OE suspension set-ups, but they also offer a good combination of low-speed response and high-speed handling. We assume that you’re serious about wanting to transform the handling characteristics of your car? If so, SPAX’s PSX range is the one for you – these kits allow you to easily adjust stiffness without dismantling. Kits come complete with four uprated, shortened dampers and four chrome silicone springs that will lower your Golf by 40mm, 60mm or 80mm (60mm/40mm and 80mm/60mm kits are also available). All SPAX PSX kits are available through Big Boys Toys – visit its website (www.vwh20.com) for further info. WHO? SPAX
SUPERPRO
You might think that the only way to improve your Golf’s handling suspension-wise is to fit either a set of aftermarket springs and dampers or a coilover kit. However, if you’re looking to build on these modifications and fine-tune suspension to make it your own, then you’ll also want to swap the rubber bushes for polyurethane examples. SuperPro provides a number of kits that will not only significantly improve stability, but also offer greater control with more responsive steering. They’re also known to reduce tyre wear making the rubber on your boots last longer. While individual bush sets are available from as little as £13, to give your entire Golf the SuperPro treatment – front and rear front control arm bushes, plus rear axle pivot bushes – you’ll be looking to pay £162. Stockists include Awesome GTI (www.awesome-gti.co.uk) and PRI Racing (www.priracing.co.uk). WHO? SuperPro
EIBACH
Good news for Mk2 Golf owners – suspension specialist Eibach has announced that it will be making its much-coveted anti-roll bar kit available for a limited production run. The Mk1 kit was re-issued earlier in the year and received an amazing response, which is why Eibach decided to make Mk2 bars available too. These were originally launched in the late Eighties and quickly became a hugely popular modification, enhancing handling by keeping the car flatter in the corners. The full kit of front and rear bars includes uprated urethane bushes and specially formulated grease. Order yours by calling the number below asap to avoid disappointment. WHO? Eibach
COBRA
Although Cobra might not necessarily be a name that VAG owners are immediately aware of, this Dutch suspension specialist boasts a wide range of fitments for retro Golfs, such as the Mk1 and Mk2, which have been ‘computer mated’ at the factory to work perfectly with OEM dampers. Cobra lowering springs are sold in sets of four and in most cases can lower your Golf by 30mm, 40mm or 60mm depending on how close to the road you want to get. Springs are pre-fatigued to eliminate sagging before being shot-peened for durability and toughness. They’re also finished in a thick powder coating. As well as offering springs, some models also have a corresponding sports damper kit available for the complete suspension makeover. For more information on the Cobra range, visit the website below. The price we’ve quoted is from: www.cobra-springs.co.uk – you can get in touch with them by calling: 0845 644 8377. WHO? Cobra Suspension |
