AMD TUNING

JunePWAMD

AmD has over two decades experience in the tuning industry and has built in that time a solid reputation for unleashing an engine’s full capability, without compromising on reliability. This is achieved through a time-tested process: firstly, prior to a remap, AmD will check each vehicle for engine fault codes, followed by a short road test to make sure the vehicle is in sound overall health. The software modifications are then carried out, followed by another short road run and full diagnostic test.

AmD is so confident of its methods that it will then provide a post-tuning analysis and certificate to verify performance gains.

Take the 197bhp Scirocco 2.0-litre TSI for example; the AmD team reckons that their Stage 1 remap will improve performance to the tune of 60bhp and add up to an extra 80lb ft of torque.

There are various AmD branches located across the UK – the number below is for AmD’s base in Essex.

APR

JunePWAPR

As one of the biggest names in tuning, most of you will have probably heard of APR. But unlike other well-known specialists, APR only works with VAG and Porsche engines – what its team doesn’t know about these cars probably isn’t worth knowing.

All APR remaps use security encryption. Not only does this prevent a dealer from flash programming an APR ECU, but it also means this software is completely undetectable by a main dealer’s set of diagnostic tools.
What’s more, all of APR’s software comes with a lifetime of free upgrades and a lifetime warranty against defects.

APR is an American-based firm, which has a number of UK suppliers. One of which is Tuningwerkes. Through this particular VW specialist, you’ll pay £299 to have the 1.8T engine in your Golf remapped. For your money, APR reckons that you can expect performance increase up to 215bhp and engine torque to reach 247lb ft.

REVO TECHNIK

JunePWrevo

Owners of the 2010 model year Mk6 Golf GTI and 2.0TDI Scirocco might not be aware that a VW ECU security update now means that it is no longer possible to override the security lock by communicating with engine management through the OBDII port. In short, you can’t remap the ECU by flashing an aftermarket file.

Well, that is until now, with the launch of Revo Technik’s new SPX and Crypt-X software. Ignore specially-developed hardware and software package allows Revo dealers to unlock the ECU and flash through the OBDII port. Revo is currently rolling out the SPX device throughout its network of over 300 dealers.

According to Revo, there’s now no reason not to get a remap for your new VAG motor. Doing so will mean that the Mk6 will go from 200bhp/207lb ft to 275bhp/314lb ft, while the Scirocco 2.0 TDI will put out 208bhp/321lb ft.
