VOLKSWAGEN VERSUS TOYOTA – that’s what it’s coming down to in the 2011 FIA F3 Championship decider at the Macau Grand Prix 17-20 November, as VW attempts to become the most successful engine manufacturer in the event’s history. If VW does so it means it would have successfully defended its title three times consecutively since 2009, a great achievement for the German manufacturer. Among the 15 drivers from 12 nations racing around the 6.120km (3.803 mile) street circuit, in F3 cars powered by a near-210bhp Volkswagen engine, will be drivers from the European and Asian Formula 3 championships, including newly crowned British F3 champion, Felipe Nasr, and ATS Formula 3 Cup Champion, Richie Stanaway. To date the most successful engine manufacturers in this event are Toyota and Volkswagen with seven victories each, then Opel with four, Mugen-Honda and Mercedes-Benz have three each, Renault two, and Alfa-Romeo and Fiat one each.
