550bhp Mk1 nets 10.7second quarter mile

Wave ta ta Porsche Turbo, Ferrari 612 and Pagani Zonda, Mk1 Golf's were never meant to be this quick
You've probably heard the name Andy Waite before in our monthly magazine, but for those who don't know him. he runs a bodyshop in Cambridgeshire called AK Bodycraft, and when he's not patching up MOT failures and fixing dented wings the Wisbech resident can found fettling his 550bhp, 4WD spaceframed Mk1 Golf. If you look at our wallpapers section you'll notice that there's a Blue Rallye that he stripped down to use as the basis for his straightline obsession with acceleration. Having deemed the Rallye, "not fast enough" Andy spent two years building this Mk1 from the ground up using a chassis jig to make sure everything aligned properly, his Mk1 is now 4mm wider and 10mm longer in order to accomodate the Rallye underpinnings and Haldex 4WD system.
A Garrett GT30 turbo rests at the back of the engine bay throwing 30PSI of unrelenting boost into a custom fabricated front mount intercooler and through the home made inlet manifold, the water cooling system and radiator now located out back thanks to the lack of space in the Mk1 engine bay. So far his quickest 0-60mph time is 3.1 seconds and he's blitzed the quarter mile in just 10.7, but last we heard the car was coming off of the road for a winter time revamp, because as Andy put it, "you can never go fast enough." Expect it to hit the strip next year and decemate any VAG drag pretender in the process.
