WESTSIDE MASTER GRACES GOLF+

It takes a certain type of person to own and mod a Mk1 Golf Cabrio, and an even more special person to do the job right. Tony Payne, one of Britain's foremost spray-paint and Dub bodywork aficionados, is one such chap, having styled up a gem of a 45'd 16V GTI in lush, mile-deep Porsche Iris Blue hue. The grand master, known for his quality workmanship on a slew of top Westside club cars, sets the record straight with his very own ride - and we're delighted to have it exclusively on our May cover.

Also inside is our mammoth 10-page coverage of the 2008 Ultimate Dubs show, partly as GOLF+ being the major media sponsor again this year and also because it was just a cracking show-season opener and it deserves the space. We hope we've done it justice.

Cars inside? You got 'em - and it's a bit of a crazy mix. The Euro Polo 'breadvan' GT isn't so much a car as it is a work of art; an experiment in modification pointlessness, or immaculate interpretation of landmark Dubbing? Check it out and judge for yourselves. Add in the Tuningwerks A4 Avant, a way-cool G60 Mk1, tidy VR6 Mk3, an out-there 1.8T Mk4 and this month's issue of your favourite Dub mag is a right belter! We visit JBS AutoDesigns and conclude out Mk1 Golf rear disc conversion How To... as well.

Find the May 2008 issue of GOLF+ at all good outlets and stockists, subscribe for a printed version, or lead the masses and get your super-sexy digital version via our Zinio link real soon.

Until next time...

Payne's World
His name is connected to some of the top British showcars ever - yet how does this master craftsmen work the magic for himself?

Tony Payne is responsible for helping to create some of the UK's top show-stoppers, not least a large chunk of the Westside car club's machinery. The guy remains one of the more respected people within the VW world.

Shining Armour
So 'Cleanliness is next to Godliness'? Scratch this Polo GT 'Breadvan' ... and say your prayers

Obsessive compulsive disorder. It's a phrase often aimed at the type of people whose car is cleaner than a nun's conscience. 26-year-old Thomas Owczarski is one such man, deciding to go the whole hog with more than 2700 hours spent on his 1992 Squaredback Polo GT. This is one not to be missed in this issue of GOLF+

Be Kind Rewind
Modern interpretations of classics havea funny knack of not quite hitting the mark. This G60 Mk1 takes aim...

These days Hollywood would make a movie about anything. Then comes the remake of the remake of the remake. Sound a bit like cars? What if films were cars? How would you remake a Mk1 Golf for 2008? Could this be it?

Avant Garde
A contemporary, load-lugging, ground-hugger that is often mistaken for its much-coveted big bro RS? Surely that makes it an 'RS bandit'?

For managing director of Croydon-based Tuningwerkes, Reuben Gata-Aura, his 1.8T Audi A4 Avant was an obvious choice: "I'd been wanting to do a wagon for years..."

GOLF+ SEPTEMBER 2008-08-12

The UK's Grounded Crew graces our hallowed cover once more with Jason Buckley's stunning 2.0L 16V Mk1 taking pride of place. The ride actually has its historical roots connected well back to GOLF+ in the day, so it was our pleasure to pay homage to on of the finer UK Mk1 to hit the scene this year. Top stuff Jason!

Also inside, we pay tribute to one of the great Mk2s of the modern Dub era - Simon Sweetland's gem of a car, not unfortunately parted put and 'moved on over to the other side'. With his next awesome project to come, be check out his beloved Mk2 in the meantime, one last time.
