February 2008
On sale: Friday, 4 January 2008
Our February 2008 sees the awesome Grounded Crew Mk3 VR6 Syncro owned by Warren Walker grace our front cover, that's plush and purposeful with a suitably divine stance on those 9x16in WRD mesh wheels. Plus there's a gem of a G60 Mk1 that rides on 7x16in Ronal Racing proper magnesium rims, but most importantly has a bay that harbours the quite-special 'crackled black' powercoated engine. Lovely stuff! Add in the German Kaunitz and USA Sema shows, plus cool Mk1 from club HAVOC GTI, a thunderous Mk1 Scirocco and silky smooth Mk4 Bora-Golf from Dub-life.co.uk, and things get real interesting. Check it out!
Six Feat Thunder
Mk3s may well be the 'black sheep' of the family, but this VR6-howling, cambered-up syncro is definately more Big Bad Wolf than tender lamb cutlet
It's a brazen claim to ride with plates that taunt pretenders and contenders with the words "M44D VR", but Grounded Crew's Warren Walker finds himself at ease with stirring up that particular pot.
Gun Powder
This 'crackled black' Euro G60 on proper Ronal Racing magnesium wheels was fast becoming the 'Jason Bourne of the VW mod world', but it didn't mean we ever gave up the chase for 'taste'...
Opening the bonnet, you'd be forgiven for expecting to see a mirror-like engine, but no component was left untouched with the Harley-Davidson-inspired 'crackled black' powdercoat look...
Present arms!
When the time comes for gift-receiving at birthdays and Christmas, this German Dubber knows he's always in for a treat - like this Mk1 Scirocco
Check that over-bored Passat 2E block with lightened, balanced and nitrided crank that pushes 83mm forged pistons up towards an Audi A4 head, all in a luscious smoothed bay!
Low is all you need
We know what you're thinking, "not another Mk1 Golf on carbs?" But if you're thinking that you've obviously never heard the disruptive snarl of twin 40s at full chat...
Cars like HAVOC GTI's Adam Chiver's Mk1 Driver give thrills and spills of a supremely well-connected, darty, old-skool driving experience. Ladies and gents, a renaissance is due!
