GOLF+ JUNE 2008 cover

JUNE 2008

There's always a great reward for Dubbers when expected cool cars and projects debute at a major show, but there's an even greater thrill for us when a stunning motor that shies away from the pomp and ceremony slinks its sexy self into a show only for punters to end up showering it with praise. The 'small-light' G60 Mk1 gracing our cover today is testimony to the hard work, meticulous dedication and insurmountable perseverance of owner Mark Evans. This mint example does the British Dub scene proud, quietly going about its business of wooing crowds and inspiring the Mk1 masses. Top stuff we say, and we hope you enjoy.

Also inside we've two awesome rides that pass wind in the faces of their rivals when it comes to maximising the old power-to-weight formula. The home-grown twin-cam 16v Mk2 Polo Coupe is an awesome bit of kit, whose light-weight theme is glorified in the Mk1 Golf Berg Cup 1.6L 20v race monster GOLF+ scooped. Yep, 10,000rpm in a car never looked so good, so be sure to check it out!

But if a bit of bling with power is your thing, then the chromed-up hillclimb-engined Euro Mk1 is bound to hit your g-spot, while the welcome randomness of the new-wave New Beetle has styling cues that make it quite the saucy beast.

Shows? Our pictorial of Elsecar hopefully captures the spirit of this old faithful event, while a damp Spring Festival turned out to be a top gathering all things considered, as did the Dutch VW-SPEED.NL season opener we checked out recently, too.

And finally, for all you tech heads looking for a tad more guff than in our The Brain Q&A section, we visited G-Werks for Part 1 of our G60 rebuild How To...

Other than that we'll catch you later. Enjoy.
