Prioritising. I guess it’s the key to success in virtually everything – including modifying your ‘wagen. Hence why this issue we’ve given James Wallace the task of deciding how to spend the first grand on your Mk1. Definitely worth a look if you’re pondering on where to go next with your Golf project – and there’s some totally useful practical info in there as well which could save you a fair amount of heartache later on. I wish I’d had that kind of experience to hand when I was running my Mk1 GTi. Admittedly, most of my attention was spent keeping it topped up with oil and negotiating my way past the lack of synchro in third. Reminiscing once again, the story of Stefan Klotz and his Mk4 Golf got me thinking (pages 42-48). The bog standard Mk4 was Stefan’s first car, and since the tender age of 18, he’s thoughtfully transformed it from a flacid 1.4 into a 1.8T powered showpiece (see pic above). So while the rest of us have switched and changed our cars, probably losing a shedload of cash each time, Stefan’s stuck with his, investing all his time and money on the same motor. Kinda makes sense doesn’t it? Especially, if like another of our feature cars this month on pages 70-75, it only cost £70 in the first place. Finally, we’d love it if you joined us on Facebook. You can post pics of your car, comment on the scene, tell us what you’ve been up to – and even find out about some fabulous offers. Find us at www.facebook.com/VWGolfMag Hope you enjoy the issue.
